Waanzinnig Wonderlijke Winter Wonderland Wedstrijden. Wees Welkom, Wees Warm, Wees Welgezind!

'Twas the night before the WW, when all through the Proteus
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse (except for the WWK);
The boats were hung in the boat shed with care,
In hopes that blikken soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of winning danced in their heads;
And het Venster in their 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long rower’s nap,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave a lustre of midday to objects below,
When what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But 41 Proteus crew teams showing no fear,
With all their coaches so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment they would win a blik.
More rapid than eagles their crew teams they came,
And they whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
"Now, LHEj8+ with Vensterstroke Willem! now, DG2x (Iris and Hanne), DG2x (Noor and Kyra), DG2x (Martine and Annelouk) DG2x (Lisa and Evie) ! now LHG1x (Ids) and DEj8+ with stroke Silke!On, LDG2x (Mixed with Pelargoas, led by Noor)! on, HSB1x (Wouter)! To the top of the rankings! to the top of the trophies!
Now row away! row away! row away all lovelies!"
As waves that undulate the wild tsunami crash,
When they meet with an opponent, amounting to thrash;
So up to the vlot the rowers they went
With the boat full of joy, and coaches spent
—And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the vlot
The prancing and pawing of each little trot.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the Schie the rowers came with a bound.
They were dressed all in thermal clothing, from their head to their foot,
And their clothes were all tarnished with sweat enroute;
A bundle of dextros they had flung in their boat,
And they looked like a star with reasons to gloat.
Their eyes—how they twinkled! their dimples, how merry!
Their cheeks were like roses, their noses like a cherry!
Their droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the effort on their faces was furious and aglow;
The stump of an oar they held tight in their hands,
And the gleam of sweat, excreting from their glands;
They had a broad face and a shredded belly
Those abdomens shook when they laughed, everyone else looked like jelly.
They were not chubby and plump, but still a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw them, in spite of myself;
A wink of their eyes and a twist of their head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
They spoke not a word, but went straight to the start,
And gave it their all, with might and with heart,
And laying their finger on some old oar,
The audience supported with a mighty roar;
The judges let the rowers start with voice not a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard them exclaim, ere they rowed out of sight—
“Happy WW to all, and to all a good 5k so merry and bright!”
